Community

The projects listed below were determined by the results of the village survey carried out in March 2024 which resulted in the following community-focused recommendations that Sustainable Rampton should:

  • work with the Parish Council to identify suitable areas for increasing wildflowers
  • work with the Rampton Village Hall Management Committee (RVHMC) to improve the energy efficiency of the village hall;
  • work with the Parish Council to determine the level of community support for the development and management of a community food growing initiative;

Current Projects

Increase wildflower planting

Together with the Parish Council we have identified a number of suitable areas in the village, including the churchyard for growing wildflowers in order to increase habitats which enable pollinators to thrive and survive. Pollinators, including bees and insects such as hoverflies, beetles, flies, butterflies and moths, are vital to food production and biodiversity. These have been roped off and will not be mown until the early autumn, information signs provided by the Parish Council are due to be erected.  Sustainable Rampton has been working with the New Life on the Old West (NLOW) team to source appropriate wildflower seeds for the verges and the ‘77 Committee have offered funding.

We will be guided by the NLOW team which was responsible for the creation of the wildflower meadow on Rampton’s recreation ground.

Community Food Growing Project

We have recently been awarded a £500 Community Food Growing grant by South Cambs District Council. This will go towards establishing a couple of raised beds on one of the village allotments that we’ve allocated by the Parish Council.

It’s hoped that the beds will be installed in the next month or so.

The project remains open to all villagers, so if you didn’t respond last year but would still like to volunteer in some capacity, please email the team at sustainablerampton@gmail.com or call Dave on 07485 701970 to get involved!
